I remember how cool that was!ĭoes anyone remember Z-modem, HS-Link, etc.? I still use Z-modem (Linux/UNIX boxes) today with SecureCRT (wished PuTTY had it SyncTerm's is a bit buggy) for file transfers (can resume unlike SCP!). Although I found that its 80-column C128 terminal support left something to be desired, its 40-column C64 terminal support is acutally quite good. I remember using Windows 3's Terminal and Xmodem for the first time ever on a 2400 speed.

Those were the days.Back in my days, I mostly used Qmodem at first and then ProComm Plus for Windows. Later I bought a 2400 at a swap meet and then a US Robotics 19.2K modem at another swap meet. Later upgraded to a 1200 Baud Modem bought from DAK electronics. Thought this was a file issue but checking back. My first modem was a 300 Baud Radio Shack DC Modem going into an RS-232pak and using the builtin terminal program of the RS-232 Pak. Southern Amis has the initial issues with SyncTerm as its not CRC xmodem but after the initial check, it switches to 8bit xmodem. I used to use TeleTerm v 2.11 in those DOS days. Download a SyncTERM compatible list file here. Now I can manage the routers and switches at 300 Baud. Bah, why do it on the router? Just use a software like SyncTerm: » / to stimulate the speed, ANSI stuff (even music!), etc.Ĭool.
